HISTORY

During the covid outbreak, cousins Grant Britton & Paul Jones like many struggled with the lack of opportunities to surf. Paul who has surfed since his early teens had mentioned that for years he’d often felt like there weren’t many if any fellow enthusiasts of bodyboarding, after seeing the sport die off post 90’s.

Following the pandemic the pair opted to start using The Wave due to restrictions still being in place preventing them from travelling to coastlines across county borders. It wasn’t long before they became ‘frequent’ users and in doing so would regularly bump into the same faces (Jon Elliot, Grant Warren, Nick Foxwell, Chas Ford & Fred Ferreira). This gave Ken the idea of starting an Instagram page to see how many likeminded enthusiasts there were locally.

From there, the social media page slowly started building regular followers reaching out to join the group as a ‘member’. As the page grew so quickly over the first year the decision was made to affiliate the club with Surfing England to become a recognised surf club. This saw the club start to receive a membership income which the club committee continue to use to push youth and the sport.

We are at present proudly boasting around 160 members from all over the country and to date the largest Bodyboarding club in the UK. The club is still very much in its infancy and we look forward to continuing to build solid relations with other board riding clubs, governing bodies and fellow frothers.
